ちゃんと鞘に収まっていそうです

最近、リメークされた黒澤映画の予告がTVで流れてますね。
いやぁ、すごいですね、あれ。
新春かくし芸大会かと思いました。
ハナ肇が銅像で出てきても不思議じゃないや。

Do you mean that Hidden Fortress remake?

Akira Kurosawa's 1958 action comedy "The Hidden Fortress" ("Kakushi toride no san-akunin") -- said to be the inspiration for "Star Wars" -- will be remade in Japan, producer and distrib Toho has announced.

The pic will be helmed by Shinji Higuchi, an SFX whiz also responsible for the hits "Lorelei" (2005) and last year's "The Sinking of Japan" (Nihon chinbotsu).

Playing the Toshiro Mifune role of a general guiding a princess through enemy territory is Hiroshi Abe, a Hugh Grant-ish star who is branching out from romantic comedy to action roles.

Taking the Misa Uehara role of the princess is Masami Nagasawa, a film and TV star since her breakthrough in the 2004 megahit weepy "Crying Out Love, in the Center of the World" (Sekai no chushin de ai o sakebu).

In a departure from the original, the two bumbling peasants who attach themselves to the general and princess -- and are the models for C-3PO and R2-D2 -- will be combined into a single character, a mountain-dweller played by Jun Matsumoto, from boy band Arashi, who stars in hit TV drama "Hana yori dango" (Boys Over Flowers). Matsumoto has also appeared in pics, including 2004 hit "Tokyo Tower."

Shooting starts Thursday and is skedded to wrap by the end of the year. Toho has slotted "The Hidden Fortress" for a May 10 release.

Also on the Toho line-up is "Subaki sanjuro," a remake of the 1962 Kurosawa pic of the same title, starring Yuji Oda ("Bayside Shakedown") in the Mifune role. Release is skedded for Dec. 1.

BTW, Dreamworks[I think it's them.] has been trying to remake "Ikiru". Oh, and Monkey Punch was originally going to remake Seven Samurai[I'm guessing what became the Gonzo anime.], and when I asked Miyazaki-sensei about whether he'd like to be involved, he said he'd prefer to stick to the original. Donnie Yen[Princess Blade choreographer] and Zhang Ziyi were also alleged to be in an international remake, but that hasn't happened yet.

No, it is "Tsubaki sanjyurou".
I think the actor is too young and immature to play the leading part Mifune played in the original film, and proper role for him is one of nine young samurai.

If he's the same Abe who plays Kenshiro in Hokuto No Ken, I heard his age was the reason he was hired, because they didn't want to pay Kamiya-san more money. He actually did fine from what I've heard, but seeing his profile doesn't make me think samurai, either...

Still, I thought Asano-san would make a decent Ogami Itto, and he actually
said he'd be ok with the part, if it were ever to happen; and he's actually younger than Abe! [But he looks a lot older, doesn't he?] Aronofsky's been trying to make an American version for a while now, though.

Oh, and it's funny that even IMDB spells it out "Tsubaki", but Variety didn't. But then they're not big on spell-checking.

私は英語は全然ダメです。
英語が出来たら、DJZことダニエル氏への返信ももっと饒舌になることでしょう。
辞書がなければ何一つ書けませんよ。
学校での英語の成績は良かったんですけどね。
日本の教育もあてになりませんなぁ……って、私の頭が悪いのを他人のせいには出来ません。
英語が出来れば広がる面は多々あるんですが、日本語も覚束ないのでそれどころじゃありません。
